Professor at University of Geneva
I have an interdisciplinary background in biology and ecology, with long-standing experience in global health. I specialized in the application of spatial analysis and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). I had the chance to spend quite some time on doing research about the origin and the worldwide spread of our human ancestors, using human population genetic and environmental data. I’m fund of tackling challenges linked to how geospatial data can be better accessed, processed and used, notably through distributed computing and Spatial Data infrastructures (SDIs). I’m currently the co-director of the AccessMod global project, involved for more than 14 years with the development and implementation of AccessMod – an open source software to model accessibility to health services in low- and middle-income countries.
I’m leading the GeoHealth group at the Institute of Global Health, closely collaborating with the Institute for Environmental Sciences at the University of Geneva, doing research at the interface of global health and the environment, through innovative digital sciences. We are supporting UNFPA, UNICEF, The Global Fund, FIND, WHO and many Ministries of Health and national partners in about 20 African countries.
